Job Description

Lake Superior Community Health Center (LSCHC) is seeking a medical receptionist at the Superior, WI office. The medical receptionist greets clients of all ages and/or their representatives and obtains all pertinent information needed to complete the intake record. Reviews and verifies all third-party payer information by making contact with payers or verify information through on-line verification tools regarding coverage and benefits. Posts dental charges and payments.

  • Pay range: $14.50-$17.55

Job Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Experience in healthcare business operations, preferred
  • Experience with insurance verification, billing and/or processing payer information, preferred

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Computer and Microsoft Office software knowledge
  • High level of customer services skills, tact and diplomacy
  • Knowledge of healthcare and dental practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Demonstrates ability to consistently achieve a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Obtain all pertinent clients intake information
    • Greet clients of all ages and obtains all pertinent information to ensure accurate capture of data for billing and reporting purposes
    • Explains all forms requiring completion to the client or their representative
    • Schedules client appointments according to department procedure
  • Verifies all third-party payer
    • Identifies client's insurance company or managed care plan and benefit eligibility
    • Provides insurance company with required information
    • Ensures clients are eligible for services prior to treatment
  • Responds to incoming customer calls
    • Answers questions and/or refers calls to appropriate staff
    • Takes messages, when appropriate
    • Schedules appointments according to procedure
  • Clerical responsibilities
    • Reminds clients of appointment by calling the day before the appointment
    • Scans forms into Centricity
    • Ensures demographic information is up-to-date and accurate
    • Verify insurance prior to treatment and update chart
    • Faxes prescriptions to pharmacy as directed by dentist
    • Performs Release of Information duties
    • Maintains patient waiting list, denture waiting list, new patient tracking, and referral tracking spreadsheets
  • Client billing and collections
    • Collect client co-payment
    • Post charges into billing system after encounter
    • Post payments into accounts receivable upon receipt
    • Daily reconciles Day Sheet
  • Participates with the medical team to make sure patients are seen efficiently
  • Miscellaneous Duties
    • Responsible for personal compliance with LSCHC
    • Maintains patient confidentiality
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Communicates with all other staff members

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting
  • Frequent bending and squatting
  • Extensive keyboarding and phone reception
  • Work under stressful conditions may be required
