About the Role Our firm is partnering with a well-established U.S. manufacturer that supports the transportation and infrastructure industry, specializing in large-scale metal fabrication and engineered structures. We are seeking a Structural Engineer to join a highly collaborative, hands-on engineering team focused on improving manufacturability, safety, quality, and production efficiency.
This is an on-site role based in Winsted, Minnesota, working directly within a manufacturing environment that values continuous improvement, practical engineering solutions, and technical leadership.
Job Description The Structural Engineer will support new and existing product designs by ensuring structural integrity, manufacturability, and alignment with production capabilities. This role blends traditional structural engineering with manufacturing process optimization and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities - Evaluate and assess new product designs for manufacturability, including reviewing specifications from multiple sources
- Perform structural engineering calculations under various loading conditions, including static and wind loads
- Apply ASD and LRFD design methodologies for structural analysis
- Identify design and manufacturability issues and recommend effective engineering solutions
- Develop and review calculations, drawings, and documentation for internal use and external submittals
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, engineering, and production teams in a metal fabrication environment
- Recommend and implement manufacturing process improvements that enhance capacity, safety, quality, and efficiency
- Support standard work development and continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead and participate in meetings to gather requirements, communicate progress, and drive outcomes
- Participate in Kaizen and other continuous improvement events
- Serve as a technical contributor to long-term planning and strategic initiatives
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and quality expectations
Qualifications Required - Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related field
- Minimum 5 years of practical experience applying structural engineering principles
- Strong understanding of static loads, wind loads, and structural behavior
- Experience performing both ASD and LRFD structural design
- Proficiency interpreting blueprints, fabrication drawings, and mechanical drawings
- Technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, particularly in metal fabrication
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement solutions
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including leading meetings and presentations
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate in a high-performance team setting
Preferred - Experience using SolidWorks or similar 3D solid modeling software
- Prior experience supporting transportation, infrastructure, utility, or heavy manufacturing products
- Demonstrated experience improving manufacturing processes or contributing to lean/continuous improvement initiatives
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision while maintaining a strong sense of urgency
- Proven project management skills, including prioritization and deadline management
