The Department of Government, Criminology, & Sociology at Lander University invites applicants for a full-time, non-tenure track teaching position in Political Science and International Studies to begin in August 2026. Faculty rank and salary is commensurate with credentials and professional experience. All ranks have possibilities of promotion.
While a Ph.D. in Political Science, International Relations, or International Studies is preferred, candidates with a master’s in International Relations or related field or ABD are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate must be able to teach an Introduction to World Politics course as well as lower and upper-level electives in international relations and comparative politics.
The area of specialization is open, but candidates with credentials and experience in both International Relations and Comparative Politics are preferred. The ability to teach an introductory course in American government is a plus. Courses connect to General Education, the majors in International Studies and Political Science, and several minors.
University-level teaching experience in a face-to-face format is required. The candidate should be committed to teaching excellence, willing to contribute to collaborative efforts in recruitment, retention, and overall departmental growth, and work effectively with a diverse student population. Teaching will take place on the main campus and possibly online.
This position includes responsibilities in teaching and service. The teaching load is 30 hrs. per year (5 courses per semester) with 3 preps per semester. The International Studies major possesses real growth potential among undergraduates, many of whom are international students. Candidates who can contribute to this program-building effort are especially encouraged to apply. The position has no research expectations; however, research is welcome and encouraged and would be supported. Lander supports on-going training and professional development through its Center for Faculty Excellence.
